The Inverness
A screen ready miniature
2022
This model, was constructed as part of my final year production design project. I had always had a fascination with Science Fiction and the miniature spacecraft used in Star Wars, Alien and various other films and wanted to try one for myself. The Inverness is a 1:75 scale model of an original design, interplanetary naval destroyer. The name was chosen in association with the locations significance in Macbeth.

Notable Features
The model features a two axis method of being mounted onto a stand. The horizontal mount is covered up by detailed panels held on by magnets as seen below.

Similarly, the the battery packs for the rear thruster, lateral trenches and bridge lights, are also hidden in secure compartments behind panels that are held in place via small, neodymium magnets.

A handful of components on the model, were 3D printed assets of my own design that I created in Blender.

Design Process
The design process for this project mainly consisted of figuring out the base form of the ship. I wanted some kind of bevelled block to make up the base structure and have protrusions add to its overall silhouette.

Construction Process
The base skeleton of the model was a light wooden frame. This provided a solid base from which the overall lightweight materials could be build upon.
I chose to do it this way in order to allow the model to be suspended on stands as safely and securely as possible.

Painting and Weathering
The model was first given three coats of matte grey spray primer.

Following this, the model was taped off and sprayed with a "Shark" and "Slate" greys, "Sand" and "Ivory" spray cans. Once dried it was weathered using an airbrush and dry brushing with acrylics.
